Knowing the Unknown

Knowing the Unknown

We are now living in what is known age the digital age. Everything that past generations have become accustomed to doing is now done in a new way. But one of the important things to remember is that as we transition into this digital age we must find ways to keep track of the data that is being brought in. In the entertainment and pretty much all industries, the use of websites and pages are becoming a big deal, almost everyone has one.

This week in class we did some work on learning about the analytics behind websites, as well as learning how to track what sites or keywords are bringing the most traffic to the site. It is important to know this type of information because the more you know about what is happening on your site, the more you can capitalize on the use on having a presence on the World Wide Web. Some of the sites and programs that we used to find ways to gather this information are www.google.com/webmasters and www.google.com/analytics. These two programs are easy to use even for the computer user who has little to no knowledge about the online world.

The www.google.com/webmasters site allows one to find out very important information concerning their website. It allow one to find out where your websites page stands on the search engine site Google.com. By using this tool you are able to make your website not only something that you can understand, but also something that is user friendly. We all know the importance of having a website that is user friendly. Nobody wants to go to a website that takes a rocket scientist to figure out how to navigate.

The other tool that we worked with was the www.google.com/analytics site. This tool allows the website owner to find out rather most of your traffic is coming from mobile device users, social network users, or through people just surfing the web. This is important to know because once you figure out where most of your traffic is coming from you know where to spend more time marketing to. After all the more traffic you get to your website the more you get your product in front of potential consumers. The bottom line is that it is very important to know where your traffic is coming from, and what words they are searching for to make your site pop up.
