Marketing and Technology

Marketing and Technology

With artist receiving less money today for their album sales than they have in previous years, artists are steadily finding news revenue streams. One of the things that have started to build popularity is the use of branded products in the videos. This is increasing the number of endorsements that artist are receiving.  An example of this can be seen in the nine minute video of Lady Gaga’s entitled “Telephone”, where several major brands were boldly featured in the video ("10 trends from 2010," 2010).

Along with artist starting to incorporate brands into their videos, many television series are starting to place brands on TV, without trying to hide their familiar labels/logos, as they previously did years ago. By doing this brands are finding non-expensive ways to promote themselves without having to pay for commercial and billboard space. These are just some of the many ways that marketing and advertising are changing with technology.

While many brands are jumping on this new trend to integrate their products into television shows it is important to not over do it, “the integration does nothing to enhance the scene an only calls attention to forced script integration” ("10 trends from 2010," 2010). It is important for the product placement to look natural and not forced, or it takes away from the marketing attempt, and has a negative reaction.

As the technology continues to change and effect the way that marketing is done for products and services, many marketers are turning to media ownership as a way to increase their profits. It is very interesting to see what the next big change in technology will have on the way the marketer's present products, and how consumers view brands.

Trends That Change and Reshape Entertainment

With the constant changes and introductions to the electronic devices that consumers use, is anybody thinking about the changes they are making to the entertainment industry? Many of the consumers are just looking at the devices as a way to surf the Internet and hang out on social networks with their friends at faster speeds than previous technologies allowed. In the post we will be discussing the way that six key trends have changed and reshaped the entertainment industry, as we know it today.

With the recent changes in technology consumers are no longer required to be stationary in front of large computer screens or computers to get information on the favorite forms of entertainment. Today one will find that “leading media and entertainment companies are extending their brands, content, and audience engagements across multiple channels, including social media” (HP, 2013).

Not only are consumers no longer required to sit home to find information they want on their favorite brands. They want the ability to access the content on any device and want no limits as to where they need to be to get that information. By allowing consumers the ability to access information whenever, and wherever they feel like it, companies are allowing consumers to become more personal with the brands.

People tend to down play the importance of social media and consumers consumption decisions. Many companies still have not realized that many consumers make purchases based off of the fact that they are looking for validation from their peers on the purchases that they are making. They receive this validation after they post pictures or information about the purchases online and receive responses back from their peers about the purchases. Companies that are able to spread themselves across multiple platforms in a way that works for their brands, are better able to tell where the consumer base is coming from, and how and what they like to shop for.

Mentioned above was only three of the six ways that technology is changing and reshaping the entertainment industry. The remaining three ways are listed below:
  1.          Overwhelming volumes of content to store, manage, and archive.
  2.          Need innovative ways to monetize content.
  3.         Creative production and collaboration is increasingly globalized.

An Ever Changing Industry

An Ever Changing Industry

One of the things that we have continuously posted about on this blog site is the change to the entertainment industry and how those changes will affect the industry, as we know it. Today we would like to post about the changes that have occurred through what is now known as the digital age. The recent documents that we have been coming across are solely about the changes that are happening aligning the use of cloud-based storage. This new storage system not only allows you to access files that you have stored across your various media devices, but also allows you to access the files across any device that you shall have to use. One of the articles that we have found to discuss during this post is the fact that the industry executives are trying to finds different ways to use technology so that it is not as disruptive to the industry.

Technology has changed the entertainment industry and will continue to do so in the upcoming years. Those who are behind the camera, where it used to take three to four men to run the camera it now only takes one man, can see one of the things that have been noted in the change in entertainment. This change is due to the increase in the use of HD cameras. With the continued changes to the entertainment industry people will either adjust to the changes or create new positions for themselves or they will continue to find themselves put out of business by the increases in technology.

The industry is changing in such a way that if people don’t follow along with the changes and continue to make themselves relevant they will surely be left behind. No longer are people waiting for top television channels to create new shows, they are now turning to websites such as Netflix. No longer are people waiting on artist to release albums full of audio, they are waiting for artist to release albums full of videos for every album, as was seen with the recent Beyoncé album. The changes to the media and entertainment industry will continue to happen at a rapid pace. It is just up to those invested in the industry to try and keep themselves up to date so that they are not left behind.
